Ben Stokes has shed light on Andrew Flintoff’s role in England’s national team. He said that people can picture him as a full-time coach for the England team.

Andrew Flintoff, a former England player, was recently added as a member of the backroom support staff in the England team. However, the former England skipper’s role was not a specified one. He was asked to observe and provide insights based on his experience and observation.

After bidding goodbye to cricket, Andrew Flintoff remained in the shadows of the cricket fraternity for many years. In December 2022, the former right-handed batsman suffered a horrific car accident while filing for a BBC show Top Gear.

Flintoff was seriously injured and BBC apologised to him for the event and also supported his recovery. Later in September 2023, Andrew Flintoff made his first public experience as a support staff member of the England team during the England vs New Zealand series last month.

You Can Picture Andrew Flintoff As Full-Time Coach: Ben Stokes

While speaking to Telegraph, England Test skipper Ben Stokes spoke about Andrew Flintoff’s role in the team. He said that people can picture him as a full-time coach.

“After his cricket career, Freddie’s (Andrew Flintoff) personality was perfect for TV. But then you see him make a comeback, and you can picture him being involved as a full-time coach,” the England all-rounder said.

Ben Stokes, who revoked his ODI retirement to play in the ICC World Cup 2023, also added that Andre Flintoff loved his role.

“He loved every minute of it. He said that he was in awe of what he was witnessing. Every day he spent with us, he grew more confident within himself,” Stokes added.

In Andrew Flintoff’s guidance, England also crushed New Zealand in the ODI series 3-1 last month. England lost the 1st ODI by 8 wickets. However, they won the next three games by huge margins to outplay the visitors. England won the 2nd ODI by 79 runs, the 3rd ODI by 181 runs, and the 4th ODI by 100 runs.

Now, the Jos Buttler-led team is facing Ireland in an ODI series. Later, they will arrive in India for ICC World Cup 2023. England will face New Zealand in the tournament opener on October 5. They are the defending champions of the ICC World Cup 2023.
