England in a strong position in the 1st Test, thanks to Ben Duckett

Duckett has displayed a batting masterclass in the ongoing Test series opener against the Indian team. He has batted with great intent in both innings and took on the Jasprit Bumrah-led bowling attack with a positive approach.

In the first innings, he hit a terrific half-century and finished with a knock of 62 runs off 94 balls, with 9 fours, before being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah.

He took his performance one notch higher in the fourth innings of the match and put his team in a dominant position during the chase of 371 runs.

Duckett completed his fifty off 66 balls and his century off 121 balls. On the fourth ball of the 40th over, Duckett hit a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja for a four with a brilliant reverse sweep to reach his ton, before pulling off a measured celebration.

Duckett is one of the best all-format players - Dinesh Karthik

Duckett's ton against India was his sixth Test hundred and second against India. He became just the sixth opener to score a fourth innings ton against India in Test cricket after Jeffrey Stollmeyer (WI, 1953), Desmond Haynes (WI, 1989), Mark Taylor (AUS, 1998), Dimuth Karunaratne (SL, 2022), and Zakir Hasan (BAN, 2022).

Looking at Duckett's brilliant batting show, the veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle labelled him as England's best batter after Joe Root. He stated:

"Brilliant batting from Ben Duckett. After Joe Root, England's best batsman. Hopefully, he starts getting the credit he deserves."

Meanwhile, speaking on Sky Sports, Dinesh Karthik reckoned that Duckett is one of the best all-format players in the world. He said:

“You could argue that Duckett is one of the best all-format players going around in world cricket and what a fitting shot to bring up the hundred.

“He is a master of various sweeps and has played a strong reverse sweep despite the deep point fielder being there. He beat him convincingly. Outlandish and great to watch – but he has been in control of the situation."

"Team India won't mind this rain break at this point in time. Captain Gill tried some tricks that didn't work out and what a knock Duckett has played so far. Crawley as well. England are in a very strong position," Dinesh Karthik added.
