Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be seen in action for India as the team’s vice-captain of the Men in Blue, when they play Sri Lanka in the white-overs series starting July 18. Former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar feels that the UP bowler brings a different dimension to India’s bowling attack.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been battling fitness and injury issues over the last couple of years and has missed the IPL 2020 and many matches for India, including getting injured in the 2019 World Cup as well. Bhuvneshwar was only able to make his comeback in March of 2021 when he played domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh and then in white-ball series against England at home.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Really Impressed In The England Series With The White Ball: Ajit Agarkar

Ajit Agarkar feels that Bhuvneshwar Kumar was a bit tentative on his comeback to international cricket against England as he was coming off a long injury layoff and said that a fast bowler can only go ‘flat out’ if he is in peak fitness.

“Bhuvi really impressed in the England series with the white ball. It happens, if you are injured for a long time, you would start tentatively. So even though he didn’t pick that much wickets in the IPL, he is got the talent. He provides a different dimension to your attack,” said Agarkar during his interaction with the journalists in a virtual PC on behalf of Sony Sports Network.

Agarkar further said Bhuvneshwar’s ability to swing the new ball and then come back at the death to bowl yorkers provides India with an added advantage.

One thing that I would look is his fitness. Sometimes you just know whether the guy is confident about his fitness or not. And once he is confident, he will be going flat out; I will be looking forward to him. He provides something different. There are other guys who have come but the experience that he has got, Bhuvi will be extremely handy if he can keep himself fit,” Agarkar opined.

The three ODIs between India and Sri Lanka will be played on July 18, 20, and 23. The three T20Is will go ahead on July 25, 27, and 29. R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo hosting all six matches.
