Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been picked in the Uttar Pradesh squad for the upcoming edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy after having made expected progress from the thigh injury he suffered during the IPL that had ruled him out for six months.
The injury-prone Indian international was not picked in the original squad released by Uttar Pradesh while his former Team India teammate Suresh Raina. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will now travel to Alur (Bengaluru) from Delhi on Saturday while Raina and his other teammates will travel separately.
Even though the National Cricket Academy has cleared Bhhvneshwar Kumar, Uttar Pradesh has picked as many as seven fast bowlers in a squad of 22, including seven standbys to ensure sufficient backup at their disposal, should the premium fast bowler once again gets injured.
The other pacers include Ankit Rajpoot, Shivam Mavi, Purnank Tyagi, Mohit Jangra, and Aaquib Khan.
Earlier, it was learned that Bhuvneshwar Kumar would not be available for any competitive cricket for six months but sources in the know of development have said that the fast bowler has made strides over the past few days.
“But Bhuvneshwar has made strides over the past few days and has also been training at a ground in Greater Noida West (Noida Extension) for the past couple of days, bowling as well as batting,” said a source as quoted by News18.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh have been slotted with Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Punjab, Railways and Tripura in Elite Group A, and all of their group matches will take place in Bengaluru.
