Big blow for India! Jasprit Bumrah announces unavailability for England Test matches

Jasprit Bumrah has informed BCCI that he’ll not be available for all five matches in the Test series against England. Bumrah’s unavailability in the England tour will hurt India’s chances in the Test series.

The Indian team are witnessing a rebuilding phase in the red-ball format, and now with Bumrah’s availability in the England tour will trouble the Indian team more.

Jasprit Bumrah’s availability

Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury in the Australia tour, but he returned to action in the IPL 2025. According to The Indian Express, Bumrah told BCCI that he’ll not be available for all five Test matches to manage his workload.

Bumrah could play three Test matches in the England tour to manage his workload. The absence of Bumrah in two Test matches will affect India’s chances of winning the Test series in England.

In the last England tour, Bumrah picked up 18 wickets in four Test matches, including a five-wicket haul against England.

Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury in his last Test match against Australia and didn’t come to bowl in the last innings as well.

In the past three years, Bumrah’s back issue has created more problems for him in the red-ball format. Bumrah isn’t playing the Test matches regularly for the Indian team.

Jasprit was also the deputy of Rohit Sharma, but now the selectors aren’t considering him for the captaincy role due to his injury problem.

Who will lead India’s pace attack in the absence of Bumrah?

Mohammad Shami will reportedly be out of the squad for the England tour due to his fitness and form. Apart from Bumrah, Shami is the most experienced pacer in the Indian squad.

Arshdeep Singh and Anshul Kamboj might get maiden Test call-up, but currently, there is no experienced pacer in the Indian team.

Mohammed Siraj is in contention for the England tour. However, India might go with the young pace attack for the next overseas Test to build the team for the next decade.

Jasprit Bumrah is going through a good patch as he has scalped 16 wickets in just nine matches in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Bumrah played a vital role in helping the Mumbai Indians qualify for the playoffs.

India vs England Test series

India will be touring England for the five-match Test series. The series will commence on June 20 in Headingley. India head coach Gautam Gambhir will travel to England on June 6 with the India A squad to prepare for the tour.

The selectors haven’t announced the squad, and the selectors may announce the squad on May 24. The selectors will also announce the new captain and vice-captain of the Indian Test side.
