Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal recently fell sick after consuming an unknown liquid from a pouch on a flight. He and his teammates were on their way to Delhi from Agartala when the mishap happened.

While he believed that the liquid was water, it was not. As soon as he consumed the liquid, he had a burning sensation in his mouth and throat in addition to having a bout of vomiting. He was immediately deplaned and admitted to a private hospital in Agartala. While he was cleared of any major issues, he had to spend one night in the hospital before returning to Bengaluru.

“While sitting on a flight, he saw a pouch in front of him, and thinking of it as water, drank it,” K Kiran Kumar (SP, Tripura West) said at that time.

“He had swelling and ulcers in his mouth. His condition is normal, and his vitals are stable. His manager has made a complaint. We are registering the complaint, and will investigate the matter,” he added.

To make sure that he does not fall victim to a similar incident once again, Mayank Agarwal has started carrying his water bottle on flights now. On Monday (February 19), he took to social media to post a photo of himself holding a water bottle while sitting on a flight and wrote: “Bilkul risk nahi lene ka re baba.”

The caption he used was inspired by the popular dialogue from the Bollywood movie Hera Pheri starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, and others.

Here is the post from Mayank Agarwal:

Talking about Mayank Agarwal’s performance in the ongoing campaign of the Ranji Trophy, he has scored 398 runs in 6 games with the help of two centuries and as many half-centuries. He registered two ducks against Punjab in his first game of the season before bouncing back by scoring centuries in the next two games. He will be seen in action again later this month when he leads Karnataka in the quarterfinal clash against Vidarbha.
