The Perth Scorchers have suffered a major setback as the Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the rest of the ongoing Big Bash League 2024-25 (BBL 2024-25) and this summer season due to his shoulder problem.
Jhye Richardson is all set to undergo shoulder surgery this week, and due to this, the fast bowler will miss the remaining matches of the Perth Scorchers in the ongoing Big Bash League 2024-25 (BBL 2024-25), despite the club being in contention for the knockouts of the tournament.

Jhye Richardson, who has faced several shoulder issues over the years, previously had two surgeries on his right bowling shoulder after first dislocating it in March 2019. Despite a recent freak injury in November, where he hurt his shoulder while celebrating a wicket during a Sheffield Shield match, he managed to play through the game.
However, the Australian pacer’s shoulder unsteadiness forced him to avoid high fives. This surgery will mark another setback in Richardson’s recovery, as he also underwent hamstring surgery last summer. Now, Australia is hoping for his full recovery ahead of the highly anticipated Ashes 2025.

Meanwhile, Richardson has confirmed he will undergo shoulder surgery after careful consideration and discussions with his medical team amidst the ongoing BBL 2024-25. The 28-year-old fast bowler admitted that the surgery is the only option to improve the stability of his shoulder and reduce the risk of future injuries.
Richardson admitted that his shoulder issues have affected his performance, particularly in the field, and that’s why he feels it’s crucial to be fully fit to support his teammates.
Jhye Richardson said in a press release: “After careful consideration and many discussions with my medical team, I've made the decision to undergo shoulder surgery to improve stability and reduce the risk of future injury. For the past few years, I have been limited by my shoulder in the field and know how increasingly important it is to be capable of backing up my teammates.”

Richardson says surgery is the best option for a strong and healthy comeback as he set to miss BBL 2024-25
However, the Australian pacer said that missing the rest of the BBL 2024-25 with the Perth Scorchers is a tough decision, but this is the best option to make a strong comeback. He added, “While it's a tough call, especially as it means I won't be able to finish the season with the Scorchers, this is the best option to set me up for a strong and healthy return to cricket.”
Jhye Richardson emphasized that the surgery's timing is key, allowing him the best opportunity to prepare for the upcoming summer, including Shield cricket, in the build-up for the next Ashes. Richardson is determined to fully commit to his rehabilitation process and return as the best version of himself.
Richardson signed off by saying, “The timing of the surgery is crucial to ensure I have the best possible build-up, including Shield cricket leading into next summer. I'll be giving everything I've got to the rehab process, determined to come back as the best version of myself. Thanks for all the support, and I can't wait to be back stronger for summer 2025/2026!”
