England National Cricket Team skipper Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the upcoming edition of The Hundred. The keeper-batter, who plays for Manchester Originals in the league, will be missing the entire tournament with a calf injury.

Jos Buttler sustained the calf injury while preparing for the Hundred. The injury didn't seem serious and it was expected that the keeper-batter would be available for the later part of the tournament. The scans which were taken also were inconclusive but things didn't work in his favour.

Jos Buttler's injury was much worse than expected, as he was then deemed unfit to play in the tournament and was ruled out of the Hundred on Saturday (3rd August). The keeper-batter was last seen in action during the T20 World Cup 2024 and, after that, took a short break ahead of the ongoing tournament. His replacement will be announced soon.

Jos Buttler confirmed the development through his Instagram story. The keeper-batter expressed his disappointment, saying he was gutted to miss the tournament but wished luck to his team for the campaign. He also stated that he will be working hard to be fit 100%.

"Gutted to be missing the Hundred this year. Best of luck to the Manchester Originals for the rest of the campaign. Working hard to be 100% fit asap [as soon as possible]."

Jos Buttler has dealt with quite a few calf injuries in his career. The England National Cricket Team skipper suffered a calf strain two years ago which ruled him out of England's seven T20Is in Pakistan. That also threatened his participation in the T20 World Cup 2022.

In the absence of Jos Buttler, Manchester Originals has handed the leadership to the opening batter Phil Salt. But the absence of the keeper-batter hasn't done any good to the team. The franchise has been struggling to get going in the ongoing tournament as are yet to open their account, losing three games.

Phil Salt also isn't having a great time leading the team. He has managed just 23 runs. Coach of the team Simon Katich was keen to bring in Keaton Jennings, Lancashire's club captain, as a replacement for Jos Buttler but it wasn't possible due to the confusion over Buttler's status, and Jennings signed for London Spirit.

Jos Buttler retained as the captain of the England National Cricket Team

Earlier this week, Jos Buttler was retained as the captain of the team. Coach Matthew Mott stepped down, and there were a lot of speculations about the keeper-batter's future as the captain of the team. But ECB managing director Rob Key confirmed that Buttler would continue as captain.

He also mentioned that Marcus Trescothick will fill the role of head coach on an interim basis during September's series against Australia. It remains to be seen who will be taking over as the head coach of the England National Cricket Team with Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner.
