Australia to play Border-Gavaskar 2027 with no rest and huge pressure
Cricket Australia had already announced a jam-packed international schedule for the 2026-27 season, and it is one of the toughest ones in recent years. The Australian team will play 10 Test matches in just 14 weeks between December and March.
This leaves almost no time to rest for the Aussies before their much-awaited tour of India. Cricket Australia described the India tour as a “final frontier” for senior players like Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon, as none of them have been able to win a Test series in India so far.
Keeping in mind the importance of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2027, the Australian board has already decided that Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood won’t play the early matches of IPL 2026 to manage their workload and keep them fresh for this long and difficult tour.
After the India tour, Australia is likely to play the World Test Championship final in June and then head straight into a long five-match Ashes series in England from June to August.
