Former Australian captain Michael Clarke has opened up on the BCCI doctoring pitches to benefit the home team in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Michael Clarke has rejected pitch-related allegations, emphasizing Team India’s dominance in all aspects of the game.
Reports in the Australian media suggested that the BCCI requested a ‘used’ pitch in the semi-final against New Zealand. The ICC decided to play the first semi-final game on a used surface, leading to accusations of pitch doctoring and criticism of the BCCI’s influence.
Always Talk About The Pitches In India – Michael Clarke
In an interview with Boria Majumdar on the show Backstage with Boria, Michael Clarke dismissed criticism of pitches, highlighting that both teams have to play on the same surface. Clarke said that the toss has not dictated the outcomes of the games.
“I agree and always talk about the pitches in India. It’s 50 overs, and both teams got a bat on it. I don’t think there’s been a game where the toss has dictated the outcome. People can say whatever they want about India,” Clarke told RevSportz.
Despite speculation about pitch changes, Mumbai witnessed a high-scoring match, with over 700 runs scored. India set a formidable total of 397/4 in the first semi-final game on November 15. The Men in Blue registered a 70-run victory and secured a spot in the final.
This Indian Team Deserves So Far – Michel Clarke
Michael Clarke emphasized that the Men in Blue deserve compliments and praise for their dominating performances on different grounds and pitches. Clarke expressed curiosity about the outcome of the final, highlighting the significance of the 100-over game.
“They’ve played on different grounds and on different pitches, like every other team. They have just dominated, so don’t take that away from this team, like compliment, praise, stan, applaud, and clap. That’s what this Indian team deserves so far. But now we get to the final, one game, 100 overs. Let’s see what happens,” Clarke added.
The World Cup final is scheduled between hosts India and five-time champions Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.
