The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, scheduled for September 14 in Dubai, has officially received the green signal from the Indian government on Thursday, August 21. The Indian Sports Ministry unveiled a new policy on international cricket engagements, specifically addressing matches involving Pakistan.
Indian Sports Ministry has confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is free to participate in the India vs Pakistan game in the multi-nation tournament. However, the Indian cricket team is not allowed to participate in any competition in Pakistan, and vice versa.
India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash gets Indian Government approval amid tensions
The policy is effective immediately, which allows the India vs Pakistan match in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, but the government also made it clear that bilateral cricket relations between the two nations will remain suspended.

This was a big relief for the BCCI, as there were intense calls for India to boycott any India vs Pakistan matches following the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year.
However, even before the Indian Government’s approval, the BCCI decided to go ahead with the Asia Cup 2025, including the India vs Pakistan game, despite the uproar on social media.
What does the Indian Sports Ministry policy say?
The Indian Sports Ministry policy states, “India's approach to sports events involving Pakistan reflects its overall policy in dealing with that country. Insofar as bilateral sports events in each other's countries are concerned, Indian teams will not be participating in competitions in Pakistan. Nor will we permit Pakistani teams to play in India.”
It further reads: “With regard to international and multilateral events, in India or abroad, we are guided by the practices of international sports bodies and the interest of our own sportspersons. It is also relevant to take into account India’s emergence as a credible venue to host international sports events.
Accordingly, Indian teams and individual players will take part in international events that also have teams or players from Pakistan. Similarly, Pakistani players and teams will be able to participate in such multilateral events hosted by India.”

Indian fans slam the government and the BCCI over the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash
Right after the announcement, Indian cricket fans slammed the Indian government for allowing the BCCI to go ahead with the India vs Pakistan clash in multi-nation events like the Asia Cup.
Some fans are calling the government “spineless,” as they could have boycotted the India vs Pakistan game since the Asia Cup is not the ICC tournament. On the other hand, some fans are calling out the BCCI for prioritizing financial gains over the country.
