Team India’s stunning campaign in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has turned a bit sour as their star allrounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the competition.
Hardik Pandya had suffered an ankle injury while fielding during the game against Bangladesh in Pune last month. He was trying to stop the ball in his follow through after Litton Das played a straight drive. The India star landed awkwardly on his ankle and immediately walked off the field.
Virat Kohli had to complete his over and Hardik Pandya did not return to the field for the remainder of the game. He missed the games against New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka but was expected to return in time for the semifinals. One media report suggested that the allrounder was likely to team up with Team India in Bengaluru ahead of the last league game against the Netherlands.
Hardik Pandya ruled out of World Cup 2023:
However, Hardik Pandya has failed to recover in time and will take no further part in India’s World Cup campaign. While India have not missed him much in the last three games, missing him for the semifinals and the potential final would be a huge blow.
In his absence, India have been playing Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav. In order to accommodate the two, the team-management also dropped Shardul Thakur. As far as his replacement in the squad is concerned, fast-bowler Prasidh Krishna has taken his place.
He was added to the India squad after being approved by the tournament’s Event Technical Committee on Saturday (November 4). As a result, he will be available for selection for India’s next game which is against high-flying South Africa on Sunday (November 5). He was a part of the India squad that played against Australia in a three-match ODI series just before the World Cup.
Meanwhile, India have already booked their place in the semifinals after winning all of their seven games. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be looking to extend their winning run when they take on the Proteas next.
