Cameron Green

The IPL 2025 Auction room came alive the moment the Australian all-rounder Cameron Green’s name was announced at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Despite having the smallest purse, the Mumbai Indians kicked things off by opening the bidding.

As expected, Cameron Green’s former IPL franchise couldn’t bid longer for the star all-rounder, who entered the auction as a batter at a base price of INR 2 crore at the IPL 2026 Auction. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) soon joined in, and the price started rising rapidly.

It was clear from the start that Green was going to attract a huge amount, thanks to his all-round skills. Within minutes, the bidding crossed ₹10 crore, showing just how badly franchises wanted him. The bidding war intensified even more when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) entered the race.

It was an intense battle between CSK and KKR, with neither side willing to back down. As the numbers kept climbing, the price went past ₹15 crore and then surged even higher. Green’s all-round skills, strong temperament, and big-match potential made him too valuable to ignore.

Finally, Kolkata Knight Riders had the last laugh. KKR secured Green for a massive ₹25.20 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player ever bought in IPL history.

With this record-breaking deal, the Australian all-rounder broke the record of compatriot Mitchell Starc to become the costliest overseas player ever at the IPL auction.

Starc had this honor when the Australian fast bowler was brought by the same franchise, KKR, for INR 24.75 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. Green is now the third most expensive player in the IPL history after India's Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer.

MOST EXPENSIVE PLAYER IN IPL HISTORY:

Rishabh Pant - 27 Crore (LSG)
Shreyas Iyer - 26.75 Crore (PBKS)
Cameron Green - 25.20 Crore (KKR)
Mitchell Starc - 24.75 Crore (KKR)
Venkatesh Iyer - 23.75 Crore (KKR)

Earlier, Cameron Green cleared up the confusion about his role for IPL 2026. The Australian star’s name appeared as a batter instead of an all-rounder at the IPL 2026 Auction because of a registration mistake by his manager that he revealed himself.

The 26-year-old has already represented Mumbai Indians in 2023 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024. He missed the 2025 season while recovering from back surgery. When he returned to international cricket in June, he played only as a batter, which added to the confusion about his role.

Cameron Green confirms He'll bowl in IPL 2026 after auction confusion

Now, Green has been fully cleared to bowl and has been playing as a proper all-rounder for Australia in the ongoing Ashes 2025-26 series against England at home. Now, in a major boost for KKR, the Aussie star made it clear that he is available to bowl in the upcoming IPL 2026.

Cameron Green was quoted as saying by Sportstar, “I’ll be good to bowl. I don’t know if my manager would like to hear this, but there was a stuff-up on his end. He didn’t mean to say ‘batter.’ I think he accidentally selected the wrong box. It’s pretty funny how it’s all played out, but it was actually a stuff-up on his end.”

Notably, Green was part of the first set of players in the auction, along with big names like Devon Conway, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sarfaraz Khan, David Miller, and Prithvi Shaw. However, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Prithvi Shaw, Devon Conway, and Sarfaraz Khan went unsold.
