Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is set to step down; Roger Binny is most likely to take over.
Despite reports that Ganguly wanted to remain the board’s chairman, he reportedly didn’t receive the support he needed from other members.
Ganguly has acknowledged that he will “move on to something else,” though an official statement on the situation and his impending resignation as BCCI president has not yet been released.
Speaking at a Bandhan Bank event, Ganguly acknowledged that he has long worked as an administrator and is currently looking for a new opportunity.
“I have been an administrator and I will move on to something else,” he said at the event.
“Whatever you do in life the best days are when you played for India. I have been president of BCCI and I will go on to do bigger things. You can’t be a player forever, you can’t be an administrator forever. It’s been great doing both”
“It was six captains leading the team”: Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly talked openly about his time serving as captain of the Indian team.
“Six captains were in charge of the group. When Rahul was almost removed from the one-day side, I defended him. I used their advice when deciding on the team. In a team setting, these things are observed, ” Sourav Ganguly said.
“It’s not just the runs I scored. People remember other things. It’s what you do as a leader for them,” maintained the outgoing BCCI chief.
A replacement for Ganguly at the helm, Roger Binny, is all but certain. His nomination papers have already been submitted, and he is most likely to win without any opposition.
Jay Shah will remain the board’s secretary even though Ganguly is preparing to step down as the BCCI president. In addition to the top brass being reorganized, a few other changes in the BCCI are anticipated.
