Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has lashed out at India's captain Suryakumar Yadav for another failure during the ongoing T20I series. Suryakumar scored just 14 runs in the third T20I played between India and England at Rajkot and failed to take his team across the line.

The swashbuckling batter came in to bat at No. 3 after Jofra Archer had dismissed Sanju Samson for the third time in a row. India needed a steady innings from their captain and he started well by smashing two fours early in his innings.

Despite India having lost two wickets in the powerplay, Suryakumar decided to be aggressive in the last over of the powerplay in an attempt to make good use of the restrictions. However, he perished in the process and gave his wicket away to Mark Wood for a quick cameo of 14 off 7 balls.

"You cannot hit every single ball to the boundary" - Michael Vaughan

After the match, Michael Vaughan blasted Suryakumar Yadav's approach and called it unnecessary. According to him, Suryakumar is trying to hit every ball to the boundary which led to his downfall.

"When you say be aggressive all the time, it is choosing the right ball to be aggressive to. Clearly, you cannot hit every single ball to the boundary. For India to be the team they are, they are the world champions for a reason, they need their best players in form," Vaughan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Suryakumar Yadav has been trying to play in an ultra-aggressive fashion in this format. However, it has led to him being dismissed cheaply in the last few games. While India was winning all the previous games, his performance didn't come to much notice. But since India lost this match, the Indian skipper's form has come under the scanner.

Spend time in the middle - Michael Vaughan to Suryakumar Yadav

Michael Vaughan further asked Suryakumar Yadav to spend time in the crease to regain form. Vaughan claimed that the 34-year-old batter is playing a few good shots but his innings are not big enough to make an impact in the match.

"The only way the players get into good form is by spending time in the middle. At the minute, Suryakumar Yadav is going out there, hitting a few good shots, and before you blink, he is back on his way to the dugout, without making too much of a contribution," Vaughan noted.

Before getting dismissed, Suryakumar had struck a six and a four in the last over off the fast bowler Jofra Archer. He was looking good to play a big innings but got out to Mark Wood in the next over.

Suryakumar Yadav's poor form continues

Suryakumar Yadav hasn't crossed the 30-run mark in his last seven T20I innings. The Indian skipper's last seven scores read 14, 12, 0, DNB, 1, 4, 21. His last significant knock came against Bangladesh in Hyderabad where India broke records to smash 297-6 in 20 overs.

In the ongoing T20I series, Suryakumar has scored just 26 runs in three matches at an average of 8.66. His poor returns haven't affected the results as the other batters have done quite well.

However, he will look to make more significant contributions as the captain of the team. The next match will be an important one for him as India looks to wrap up the series before going into the last T20I in Mumbai.
