A captain of an IPL team could reportedly be traded this week as the teams gear up for the upcoming auction. The highly-anticipated mini-auction for IPL 2024 is scheduled to be held on December 19 in Dubai. The deadline for the players’ trade is November 26. It is also the final day for the teams to submit their retention list.
West Indies allrounder Romario Shepherd has been traded to Mumbai Indians from Lucknow Super Giants while former Royal Challengers Bangalore star Devdutt Padikkal has been traded to Lucknow Super Giants from Rajasthan Royals. Fast-bowler Avesh Khan will play for a new team too after being traded to Rajasthan Royals from Lucknow Super Giants.
And according to a report in Cricbuzz, a mega trade could take place before the trading window closes on Sunday. The news outlet has reported that a captain of an IPL team could switch teams before the auction. The negotiations at various levels are currently underway, but a deal is yet to be signed.
The report comes after recent rumors suggested that Gujarat Titans allrounder Hardik Pandya could seal a sensational return to Mumbai Indians. The India allrounder began his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2015 and plied his trade for them for seven seasons before joining Gujarat Titans.
In Titans’ first-ever IPL season, he led them to the IPL title before guiding them to a runners-up finish this year. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have struggled without Hardik Pandya. In 2022, they failed to make it to the playoffs before managing to qualify for the playoffs this year.
CSK to release three players ahead of IPL auction:
The report further stated that reigning champions Chennai Super Kings are set to release three more players in order to enter the auction with close to Rs 30 crore in funds. Apart from Ben Stokes (Rs 16.25), whom they have decided to release, there is also a surplus from Ambati Rayudu (Rs 6.75), who retired from the IPL last year. They are also likely to release Dwaine Pretorius and one of Sisanda Magala and Kyle Jamieson.
The likes of Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Shardul Thakur could be released too. Meanwhile, veteran allrounder Andre Russell is unlikely to be released by Kolkata Knight Riders as is being widely speculated.
