Fans on Twitter reacted after the Sri Lanka Women's National Cricket Team defeated the India Women's National Cricket Team to win the Asia Cup 2024. They defeated the opposition by 8 wickets at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on Sunday (28th July).
Sri Lanka Women's National Cricket Team scripted history as, after a lot of hard work, they won the Asia Cup. Opting to bat first, they were off to a flying start with the bat as Shafali Verma (16) along with Smriti Mandhana (60) added 44 runs for the opening partnership.
But after that, Sri Lanka bowlers made a strong comeback as they removed wickets quickly, and India were left tottering at 87/3. Jemimah Rodrigues (29) joined hands with Smriti Mandhana as the duo added 41 runs for the fourth wicket and brought the team into the game with their blistering batting.
But both the set batters lost their wickets quickly and India came under pressure. However, it was Richa Ghosh who stood tall for her side and made sure that she helped her team end the innings on high, post a big total on the board, and take the momentum into the next innings.
Richa Ghosh played a brutal cameo as she slammed 30 runs off just 14 balls with the help of 4 fours and 1 six. Based on her cameo with the bat, India Women's National Cricket Team posted a total of 165 runs on the board. For Sri Lanka, Kavisha Dilhari picked two wickets.
Sri Lanka didn't have a great start with the bat as they lost Vishmi Gunaratne to a run out for just 1 run. However, after that skipper Chamari Athapaththu (61) slammed a magnificent half-century and kept her team in the hunt. She was supported well by Harshitha Samarawickrama.
The duo added 87 runs for the second wicket and gave the Indian team a real scare before Deepti Sharma removed Chamari Athapaththu in the 12th over. However, after that, Harshitha Samarawickrama (69*) took charge and slammed a brilliant half-century to take the game away from India.
Kavisha Dilhari (30*) supported her well as Sri Lanka Women's National Cricket Team chased the target by 8 wickets and inside 19 overs to win their first-ever Asia Cup title.
