Chandrakant Pandit Appointed As New KKR Head Coach After Brendon McCullum's Departure

Former India National Cricket Team player Chandrakant Pandit, who played 5 Tests and 36 ODIs between 1986-1992, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The franchise made the official announcement of the 60-year-old’s appointment as the head coach on Wednesday, August 17.
Chandrakant Pandit’s appointment comes after the departure of the New Zealand batting legend Brendon McCullum, who parted ways with the franchise as the head coach after the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and joined the England National Cricket Team as their red-ball head coach.

Chandrakant Pandit has been highly successful as a coach at the domestic level and he has enjoyed successful stints with several teams, including the Mumbai Cricket Team, Vidarbha Cricket Team and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Team. He recently guided Madhya Pradesh to their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2022 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the same place where he had lost the Ranji Trophy Final in 1999 as Madhya Pradesh Captain.

While talking about his appointment as the new head coach of the two-time Indian Premier League champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, Pandit said:
“It’s a great honour and privilege to be given this responsibility. I have heard from players and others who have been associated with the Knight Riders, about the family culture, as well as the tradition of success that has been created. I am excited about the quality of the support staff and the players who are part of the set up and I am looking forward to this opportunity with all humility and positive expectations”
The Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore said that he is looking forward to the partnership between the KKR captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Pandit. In an official statement released by the franchise, he said:
“We are very excited that Chandu is joining the Knight Riders family to lead us through the next phase of our journey. His deep commitment to what he does and his track record of success in domestic cricket, is there for everyone to see. We are looking forward to his partnership with our skipper Shreyas lyer, which promises to be an exciting one”
