The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be eager to qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs after they failed in the previous edition with a huge defeat against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the last group-stage fixture
Ruturaj Gaikwad got the captaincy of the five-time champions at the eleventh hour when he turned up for the official photo shoot of all the 10 captains of the league. MS Dhoni decided to hand over the responsibility to the young opening batter in 2024.
CSK to play three of the first four games at home in IPL 2025
It will be a mouthwatering clash for the Chennai side, as they will host the Mumbai Indians in the opening clash of the tournament on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. In an advantage for the yellow side, Mumbai will be without their leader, Hardik Pandya, who serves a one-match ban for two slow over-rate offenses.
CSK will also face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at home for their second encounter on March 28. After last year’s heated contest between the two fanbases, it will be another crucial contest for the Gaikwad-led side. They will then travel to the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati for the evening fixture against the Rajasthan Royals on March 30.
After five days of break, Chennai will return home for their first afternoon fixture of the IPL 2025 on April 05 against the Delhi Capitals (DC). For the game against the Punjab Kings, MS Dhoni and Co. will fly to the Maharaja Yudhvira Singh International Stadium on April 08.
Another huge game for CSK in the first half of the league will be against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 11 at home. Three days later, they will move to the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Bajpayee Stadium to take on the Lucknow Super Giants on April 14.
Chennai Super Kings seeks consistency in IPL 2025 second half
One of the biggest issues for the Super Kings last season was their inconsistency in the second half of the tournament. They lost four of the last seven games in the event which eventually ruled out their chances to qualify for the top four of the competition.
On April 20 this season, CSK will visit the Wankhede Stadium for the return fixture against the Mumbai side. In 12 matches at the venue in the history of the lead, they have won just five games with a win-loss ratio of 0.714.
Chennai’s only game of the season against the Sunrisers Hyderabad will be on April 25 at home. Their stay at home will be longer, with Punjab visiting them four days later. CSK will be on the road for the RCB and KKR clash in the next week.
Against the inaugural champions, Chennai will play the penultimate game of the season on May 12. After a week’s break, they will lock horns with the Gujarat Titans in the day fixture at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 18.
