Former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns suffered a major heart attack in Australia a few days ago. Now, his wife Melanie Cairns has given a statement on his situation as the former Kiwi all-rounder battles for his life. Melanie Carins issued an official statement in which she informed that the former New Zealand cricketer has undergone cardiovascular surgery.

After Cairns faced a heart attack a few days ago, the reports started doing the rounds in media. According to reports, he faced a major medical issue in Canberra city, the capital of New Zealand’s neighbouring country Australia. Social media were flooded with sympathetic wishes and prayers for the former New Zealand cricketer.

Chris Cairns Underwent Cardiovascular Surgery In Sydney Hospital: Wife Melanie Cairns

“As has now been widely reported in the media, Chris suffered a major medical event in Canberra late last week. He initially underwent surgery in Canberra, but the seriousness of his condition is such that he has now been transferred to St Vincent’s hospital in Sydney, where he has undergone further cardiovascular surgery,” Melanie Cairns informed in a statement.

Melaine also informed that she is happy with the respectful manner in which the media has reported this matter. She also informed that no further statements will be made by them in the matter and urged people to respect their privacy.

“Chris’ family and friends are heartened by the respectful and warm manner in which this terrible news has been reported, and received by the public, both in New Zealand and around the world, and thanks everyone for their warm wishes, prayers, and kind words”, Melanie Cairns said in the statement.

“For now, no further statements will be made regarding Chris’ situation, and the Cairns family asks that people continue to respect their privacy as they deal with this difficult, upsetting and concerning situation,” Melanie Cairns further added.

New Zealand Cricket CEO David White said that the board was deeply concerned with Chris Cairns’ medical emergency and they hope for his full recovery.

“We’re deeply concerned to hear of Chris Cairns’ medical emergency. Our thoughts are with his family in Aus and here in NZ. Chris is a much-loved husband, father, and son – and remains one of our finest all-rounders. We hope he’s able to make a full recovery,” David White’s statement read.

Chris Cairns played for New Zealand from 1989 to 2006. He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm pace bowler. He is one of the finest all-rounders to play for New Zealand cricket. For the last few years, the 51-year-old was living with his family in Canberra. He has been working with SmartSportz- a company specializing in virtual sport.
