India and Punjab Kings fast bowler Mohammed Shami has revealed that the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle loves speaking to his Indian teammates in Hindi.

Speaking to ABP Ananda, Mohammed Shami heaped high praise on Chris Gayle for his fun-loving nature besides also revealing how the Indian cricketers in the Punjab Kings set-up teach Hindi to the veteran cricketer.

“Chris Gayle loves to speak in Hindi. Most of the time, he likes to have fun in Hindi. While talking in English, he suddenly starts speaking in Hindi. The way we hum songs in Hindi, he speaks (Hindi) in the same way. Punjabi Cricketers from our team teach him Punjabi as well. He has been playing international cricket for so long. So much experience he has under his belt. As a human, he is very nice. He loves Indian culture,” said Mohammed Shami.

Chris Gayle, who is one of the greatest-ever overseas players to ever feature in the Indian Premier League, added another feather to his already illustrious cap during his 28-ball 40 in the first game against Rajasthan Royals as he became the first batsman to smash 350 sixes in the cash-rich league.

After having dominated the opening spot for more than two decades, Chris Gayle has asserted himself at the No.3 spot in T20s.

Gayle, who missed the first half of the season last year, starred with the bat at No.3, scoring 288 runs in seven games at an average of 41.14 and a strike rate of 137.14 with his highest score being 99.

Punjab Kings will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings on Friday and they will hope that Chris Gayle once again rolls back the years.
