CSK spinner Akeal Hosein is yet to make his debut for the Chennai Super Kings, and in the meantime, he has been busy lauding his JSK teammate Dian Forrester from the SA20 after he batted diligently against Pakistan veteran spinner Mohammad Nawaz in the PSL.
Chennai Super Kings' struggles have been evident in this edition of the IPL. As they are yet to win a single match in this edition of the IPL, one of their star picks in the mini-auction, Akeal Hosein, has shown inclination towards the PSL and has drawn attention with a social media pick.
He has been playing for the Super Kings in other leagues like the SA20 and the MLC. He has represented teams like the Joburg Super Kings and Texas Super Kings in the two above-mentioned leagues.

While being benched by CSK in the IPL, Akeal Hosein seemingly has set his eyes on the proceedings of the PSL, where he saw one of the matches between the Multan Sultans and Rawalpindi Pindiz.
He witnessed some fireworks from his Joburg Super Kings' teammate, young Dian Forrester, who smashed Sultans spinner Mohammad Nawaz for three consecutive sixes in his 24-run cameo off just 11 balls.
On the 6th of April, Hosein posted on his Instagram handle praising Forrester's batting. He contributed significantly alongside half-centurion Sam Billings. The Proteas all-rounder was dismissed by veteran bowler Peter Siddle.
Why did CSK not hand Akeal Hosein a debut despite pleas from former stars?
Akeal Hosein has been waiting for a chance to prove himself in the IPL. CSK's overseas power has, anyway, been depleted as stars like Dewald Brevis have been sidelined with injury, while Nathan Ellis has been ruled out, and lastly, Spencer Johnson is yet to join the squad.
Matt Short was also dropped following the first game; however, Noor Ahmad, the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL from the last season, has been backed by the Super Kings management.
The likes of star cricketers Ravichandran Ashwin and Ambati Rayudu have constantly been backing Akeal Hosein to be part of the CSK unit. He could be a possible solution to CSK's spin bowling woes.
Akeal Hosein's record for the Super Kings
Akeal Hosein, the left-arm orthodox spinner in the Super Kings side, has starred across several global leagues in the shortest format of the game. Hosein, however, has also been out of form lately. During the ICC T20 World Cup, he managed to bag 7 wickets in 6 appearances at an average of 23.28.
Also, playing for the Texas Super Kings in the MLC in 2025, he picked 10 scalps in 7 games while averaging 9.60 and a stunning economy of 4.80, despite taking the ball in the powerplay.
