India captain Rohit Sharma opened up about the win in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that ahead of the game against South Africa, he couldn't sleep properly because he was desperate to win the tournament.

India captain Rohit Sharma joined the likes of Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni as the leaders to have taken the team to the World Cup glory. Under his leadership, Team India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as they defeated South Africa in the final by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval and ended their title drought after 11 years.

Ever since Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy of the Indian team, he has done a terrific job but what was missing from his cabinet was the ICC trophy. He lost the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022, the ICC World Test Championship Final in 2023, and the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 at home.

However, Rohit Sharma didn't stop believing as he put in the hard yards and led from the front in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. He was sensational as the leader but came up with an even more brilliant performance with the bat. He was the team's highest run-scorer with 257 runs in 8 matches with a strike rate of 156.70. He also slammed three fifties in the tournament.

After India won the final, Rohit Sharma was very emotional as he broke down in tears. He talked about his emotions and said that flashbacks of 2007, 2011, and 2013, all came to his mind but he knew till the work was done, nothing was over. He stated that he was lost for words but once he stepped into the field, he knew what he had to do. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained:

"It's... It's very hard to say right now, how I'm feeling. It's been a little while since this has happened.  But. I remember 2007, 2011, and 2013. I remember everything.  But until the work is done, you know that it is not over. So I was lost today. I was lost today. It's very hard to say what I felt. What I felt, what it was. But we won. This is the biggest happiness for me.

"Look, honestly speaking. When I woke up in the morning, I couldn't sleep properly the whole night. This is honest. This is an honest thing. And such things happen because you're desperate for it.  And you want it so badly. So things like that can happen, which I'm very much okay with. But I knew that once the match started,  what all I need to do as a captain, as a player, as a batter."

I thought I managed myself well on the ground - Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma admitted that he managed himself pretty well on the field and they ticked every box right. While calling the World Cup win a big thing, he claimed that he will be able to nail it down properly once everything sinks in. He added:

"And I thought I managed myself well on the ground. Whatever messaging was there, whatever we had to do with the team boys, we did it properly. But obviously, it's a big thing. It's a big thing. So, it will be very difficult for me to describe it right now. But if we talk about it tomorrow or the day after, I think I'll be able to nail it down properly."

Rohit Sharma also talked about the family support that he had and claimed that his wife and daughter wanted to be part of this. He added that for him, emotionally everything was in check. He added:

"Look, honestly, they've been manifesting this for a long, long time now. That's why they are here. They wanted to be part of this. Whatever happens, they want to be part of it. And I love having them around. You know, you need a sense of calmness when you are playing such a high-profile tournament.  They are the ones who keep me happy, keep me nice and calm. So, yeah. Emotionally, everything was checked."
