After a dominant win over Delhi Capitals at Wankhede that sealed Mumbai Indians’ place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, it wasn’t just Suryakumar Yadav’s 73* that caught attention, but it was also the team owner, Nita Ambani, who also turned heads with her gesture towards Jasprit Bumrah.
As Mumbai Indians joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 playoffs with a 59-run thumping of Delhi Capitals, Nita Ambani stepped in to ensure that celebrations didn’t overshadow safety amidst the COVID spike.
Nita Ambani sanitizes Jasprit Bumrah amid celebrations
With COVID-19 cases rising again in parts of India, including Maharashtra, the MI owner was seen personally handing out sanitizer to players before they shook hands or joined the team huddle. In a viral moment, she poured sanitizer into Jasprit Bumrah’s hands.
Jasprit Bumrah smiled and followed her instructions before heading into the celebrations. She also sanitized leg-spinner Karn Sharma’s hands, making sure no one skipped the protocol.
Now, a picture of Nita Ambani personally ensuring the players' adherence to COVID-19 safety measures is going viral across the social media platform. The team owner was also seen taking a victory lap with the former captain Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium.

Hardik Pandya skips handshakes, Deepak Chahar spreads safety with sanitizer
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya showed his support for the safety measures, as he opted for fist bumps with ground staff instead of handshakes during the celebration. On the other hand, Deepak Chahar was also seen offering sanitizer to both MI and DC players.
The concern is real, as over 250 active COVID-19 cases have been reported across the country. Even the IPL 2025 hasn’t been spared from the infection. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Travis Head recently tested positive for COVID-19, and he was ruled out of their match.

Mumbai Indians make stunning turnaround in the IPL 2025
Speaking about the MI vs DC clash, Suryakumar Yadav led the charge with a brilliant unbeaten 73, while Naman Dhir (24* off 8 balls) gave the perfect finishing touch with a late burst. Their efforts took Mumbai to a strong total of 180/5 in a must-win clash for both MI and DC.
Then the MI bowlers stole the show at the Wankhede Stadium. Mitchell Santner was almost unplayable, taking 3 wickets for just 11 runs, while Jasprit Bumrah struck with his trademark precision and scalped three wickets, as DC never got going and were bowled out for just 121.
It’s been a remarkable comeback for Mumbai, who had a rough start with four losses in their first five games in the ongoing season. But the Hardik Pandya-led team bounced back in style, winning seven of their last eight matches to seal a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs.
With just a few league matches left, all eyes are now on the points table. The fight for the top two continues, but Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have the best chances to make it to the top-2 as they all have two league games remaining.
