Cricket Australia (CA) announced the 24-member list of men’s contracted players for 2023–24. The young spinner Todd Murphy and tearaway pacer Lance Morris received their maiden central contracts, while Marcus Harris is a surprise pick in the list, despite not having played a Test match since January 2022.

Todd Murphy made his Test debut against India in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series. The young off-spinner picked up seven wickets on his debut match in Nagpur and ended the series with 14 wickets at an average of 25.21. Morris was expected to make his Test debut but didn’t get a chance to play his first international match.

Mitchell Swepson, Peter Handscomb, Matt Renshaw, and Aaron Finch are absent from Australia’s list of contracted players. Peter Handscomb returned to the Test team after four years with his impressive performance in the Sheffield Shield domestic first-class competition. Handscomb had a good series with the bat in the series in India.

David Warner, who is in the last stages of his international career, made the list with the WTC final and ODI World Cup this year.
