Cricket Australia reportedly has agreed to allow England cricketers’ families to travel down under for the Ashes series later this year. Cricket Australia has decided to make this move to facilitate the high-profile series in their backyard, which was otherwise in danger. England and Australia will begin competing for the urn in Brisbane from the 8th of December.
Fears erupted as several star England cricketers were reportedly in line to pull out of the Ashes series if the government blocked the families from travelling with them. The prospect of a series postponement also loomed. Former English players also supported the move if any of the national team’s contingent were to withdraw.
Nevertheless, inews.co.uk understood that Cricket Australia remains ready to pull all the stops as the association could go to bankruptcy if the Ashes does not go ahead. No foreign nationals have received permission to enter Australia without an exemption since the pandemic started and it’s unlikely to change till the year-end.
Cricket Australia also ready to offer a bubble-free tour:
Australia’s current problems, including a slow vaccination rate and lockdowns in various states, have led to many assuming that Ashes might take place in a highly restricted bubble environment. Hence, even if the tourists come with their families, they would be confined to a strict bio-bubble environment for the entire series.
But as per sources, Cricket Australia could remove the prohibitions, except for a few basic compromises. Most of the English players have spent a long time in the bubbles, with star all-rounder Ben Stokes opting for an indefinite break from the sport to focus on his mental health.
