Karun Nair’s IPL 2025 campaign has come under the scanner as the former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra raised serious concerns. He has pointed out how Karun Nair, despite being given a second shot in the league, has failed to make a lasting impact.

After lighting up the tournament with a stunning 89 against the Mumbai Indians, Nair’s form has just vanished. He played a sluggish knock of 15 runs off 13 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders, as Delhi Capitals fell short by 14 runs while chasing 205 runs in their IPL 2025 clash on April 29.

Aakash Chopra calls out Karun Nair’s flop show in IPL 2025

After the IPL 2025 clash, Chopra said that cricket has handed Karun Nair another chance to shine, but the DC batter hasn't done enough with the trust shown by the franchise. He also highlighted how Nair failed to deliver consistently when his team needed him to step up in crunch situations.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “The start wasn't good. You (KKR) played Anukul Roy for Faf du Plessis. He didn't trap Faf but dismissed Abishek Porel. Vaibhav Arora got Karun Nair out, and I ask a question. Cricket has given you a second chance, but you (Karun Nair) are not making the most of it.

You have played one good knock and affected one or two good run-outs and shown a few glimpses that you can actually go on, but big knocks are not coming, and you are batting at the top of the order. You are getting a chance to bat at No. 3. Then Rahul's run-out. I think that was the game-changing moment. When Faf and Stubbs got out, I thought this game was over.”

Aakash Chopra slams Delhi Capitals’ spin blunder against KKR

Meanwhile, Chopra questioned Axar Patels captaincy and several tactical blunders against the KKR. Despite winning the toss, Axar opted to bowl first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and didn’t introduce spin during the powerplay, allowing Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to dominate early.

By the time spinners came on, the damage was already done by the defending champions. Chopra also pointed out the shocking decision not to let Kuldeep Yadav complete his full quota of overs. The cricket pundit said that DC made the big mistake by not bringing in the spinners in the powerplay.

Chopra further explained, “You didn't show spin at all in the first six overs, and that, in my opinion, was a mistake. So, there is a question for sure, as you didn't show spin in the first six overs and then bowled 10 consecutive overs of spin, where you have Vipraj (Malik), Axar, and Kuldeep. So how will you get them to bowl all their overs?”

DC in trouble after back-to-back defeats in IPL 2025

The former Indian batter believes that trouble is brewing in the Delhi Capitals camp as their flaws are becoming more visible with each match in the ongoing IPL 2025. With just a few games left, he feels it's almost impossible for them to finish in the top two of the IPL 2025 points table.

In fact, even making the IPL 2025 playoffs looks tough now, as their last three matches are against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Mumbai Indians, and winning all three won't be easy.
