The problems for South African cricket keeps on multiplying without an amicable solution less than a week from England’s arrival for a brief limited-overs tour. With the Cricket South Africa board resigning last month, an interim board took its place to run the operations. As per recent developments, the members’ Council of CSA had broken off relations with the interim board.
Retired Judge Zak Yacoob, chairman of the interim board, reacted to Cricket South Africa’s statement in a letter, written by the Members’ Council. The Members’ Council stated that the interim panel are self-serving, opportunistic, misleading, and quite short-sighted as far as the needs and interests of South African cricket goes.
The Members’ Council underlined that there was a breakdown in relations with the preliminary board after a meeting last Sunday between the two bodies and Sports Minister. The Council informed Nathi Mthethwa that it was not prepared to support the Interim Board.
Cricket South Africa interim board accuses the Members’ Council of not co-operating:
Judge Zak Yacoob has indicted the Members’ Council of not co-operating enough and only pretending to do so. According to Yacoob, in reality, they make an effort to derail their work and that the interim board wishes to be in charge and carry on with their duties.
Nevertheless, the latest row is unlikely to have a bearing on England’s tour of the nation, which will include three ODIs and as many T20Is. However, the Sports Minister could withdraw Cricket South Africa’s status as the controlling body of cricket in the nation.
