Cricket West Indies Names 17-Man Provisional West Indies Squad For South Africa Test Series

The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named a 17-man Provision West Indies squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa at home. The squad is expected to be further cut down to an official 13-members on Monday, June 7.

The South African team is scheduled to tour the Caribbean islands for a series of two Tests and five T20I matches beginning on June 10 and ending on July 3, 2021. The two-Test series will be played at the Daren Sammy National Stadium in St Lucia, while the National Cricket Stadium at St George’s will host all five T20I matches.

Recently, South Africa had named a 19-man squad for the Test series, which will see Dean Elgar captaining the Proteas for the first time in a full-time capacity since his permanent appointment as Test captain in March 2021. Off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen has received a maiden call-up for the national Test side after an eye-catching domestic season. Other uncapped selections include Kyle Verreynne, Keegan Petersen, Sarel Erwee, and Marco Jansen.

The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel has named a provisional 17-man squad as preparations continue for the upcoming Test Series against South Africa. The squad is expected to be further cut down to an official 13-members on Monday, June 7.

The two teams will clash for the Sir Vivian Richards Trophy in two Test matches to be played at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on June 10-14 and June 18-22. These are the final Test matches in the current cycle of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) with both teams aiming to finish higher in the final Championship table.

The squad also sees Chemar Holder missing due to an injury while 19-year-old uncapped fast bowler Jayden Seales was a first-time inclusion in the West Indies provisional squad for a Test Series.

The selection committee also announced that four additional fast bowlers will remain in St. Lucia to assist the Test squad with their preparations. These fast bowlers are Keon Harding, Preston McSween, Marquino Mindley, and Nial Smith.
