England woman cricketer Nat Sciver-Brunt has indirectly defended Harmanpreet Kaur over her two-match international game. Nat Sciver-Brunt said that cricketers can’t be calm and collected all the time.
Indian women skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was handed a two-match ban by BCCI for her controversial behaviour during an ODI game against Bangladesh Women last month. As a result, Harmanpreet Kaur cannot play for India in the two opening games of the Asian Games 2023.
You Can’t Be Calm And Collected All The Time: Nat Sciver-Brunt
During a conversation with The Indian Express, Nat Sciver-Brunt showed sympathy for Harmanpreet Kaur and defended her indirectly. The England all-rounder said that it is hard for players to be calm and collected all the time.
‘Cricketers get emotional. You can’t suppress it all the time. If you keep bottling it up, you will break at some point. It’s a hard one because you can’t be calm and collected all the time”, the 30-year-old player said.

Notably, both Brunt and Kaur were part of the same franchise Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023). Nat Sciver-Brunt also feels that we should embrace every player, no matter how they deal with pressure.
“For me, that’s what I want to be but I’m emotional underneath all of that. It’s just, I can hide it but other people’s personalities don’t allow that.
“We’ve got to be embracing every individual, however they deal with pressure. Some get angry at themselves. Some people can cry,” the England bowling all-rounder further added.
Harmanpreet Lashed Out At Umpires In INDW Vs BANW ODI
In the 3rd ODI and final ODI against Bangladesh Women last month, Kaur got angry with the umpire after her dismissal. She hit the bat on her pads and then wickets before leaving the field.
Later, Harmanpreet Kaur also lashed out at umpires during the post-match presentation. The right-handed batter termed the umpiring in the match as below standard.
During the post-match ceremony, the middle-order batter also made sarcastic comments to the umpires. Her comments did not go well with Bangladesh Women captain Nigar Sultana Joty. She skipped the joint-photo session with the Indian team for the trophy and also asked her players to do the same.
The event became a highlight and resulted in a huge controversy. Harmanpreet Kaur was booked for breaching ICC’s code of conduct and handed a two-match ban. As a result, she will miss two games in Asian Games 2023 in September-October.
