South Africa legend Dale Steyn lashed out at Chennai Super Kings for their batting strategy during the game against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday (May 20).

Asked to bat first, Chennai Super Kings were off to a poor start once again. Even before the powerplay ended, they lost three wickets. Young Ayush Mhatre was the sole bright spot in an otherwise dismal performance from Chennai Super Kings' top order once again.

The youngster smashed 43 runs off just 20 balls before being dismissed by Tushar Deshpande in the sixth over. Earlier in the innings, Chennai Super Kings lost two wickets for just 12 runs inside 2 overs.

Devon Conway squandered yet another opportunity to impress with the bat as he was dismissed for 10 by Yudhvir Singh. Yudhvir then dismissed Urvil Patel for a duck to put Rajasthan Royals in the driver's seat.

Dale Steyn unimpressed by Chennai Super Kings:

Chennai Super Kings sprung a big surprise during the powerplay. After the fall of the second wicket in the second over, they decided to send veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to bat at number four. And when Mhatre was dismissed, Ravindra Jadeja joined Ashwin in the middle.

The decision to send the likes of Jadeja and Ashwin ahead of Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, and MS Dhoni surprised Dale Stey,n and he did not shy away from criticising the Chennai Super Kings team management.

Taking to X, Dale Steyn wrote: "CSK 3 down and they send 2 bowlers to bat. Sometimes I feel their math is not mathing."

Meanwhile, both Jadeja and Ashwin failed to justify the team management's call as they could not deliver with the bat. Ashwin departed after scoring 13 runs off 8 balls, while Jadeja scored just 1 run from 5 balls. However, the five-time IPL winners have managed to post a challenging total of 187/8 in the allotted 20 overs.

They were reeling at 78/5 in the 8th over before Dewald Brevis' fine cameo gave their innings some much-needed impetus. The South African youngster scored 42 runs off 25 balls, while Dube also played a crucial knock of 39 runs. For the Rajasthan Royals, Yudhvir and Akash Madhwal picked up three wickets each.
