CSK Chief Opens Up On Investing In New South African T20 League

The proprietors of the Chennai Super Kings of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings Limited, have announced their participation in the forthcoming T20 League of Cricket South Africa.

They will be the franchise owners with headquarters in Wanderers, Johannesburg. Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of CSK, talked to NDTV shortly after the CSA made the ownership of the team public. He discussed the choice to play in a foreign competition and whether or not CSK would consider playing in additional T20 tournaments.

“We are looking for opportunities to play in other leagues and this is the main reason that we decided to invest in the Johannesburg franchise,” Viswanathan told NDTV.

When asked whether CSK will look to enter other T20 leagues as well, CSK CEO said: “It depends. It depends on the business plan, we cannot confirm right now whether we will go or not.”

Reliance is the franchise’s owner, and they will reside in Newlands, Cape Town, whereas RPSG has acquired the Kingsmead, Durban-based franchise. The team purchased by Royals Sports Group will play its home games at Boland Park in Paarl, while the Sun TV Network franchise will play its home games at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

The team of JSW Sports will play at Supersport Park in Pretoria.
