In a shocking shake-up ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly set to release several big names. The five-time champions are planning a major rebuild ahead of the next IPL season following a series of embarrassing seasons in their history.
It is being said that Chennai Super Kings, who failed to qualify for the playoffs for consecutive seasons for the first time in IPL history, are all set to release four overseas and three Indian players ahead of the IPL 2026 auction that is set to take place later this year.

Speaking about the Indian players, star all-rounder Deepak Hooda, left-arm pacer Gurjapneet Singh, and batter Rahul Tripathi are expected to be released by the CSK before the auction.
The decision to part ways with these players frees up a significant portion of its purse to target younger Indian talents and a fresh overseas core for the upcoming edition.
MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad plan CSK’s future
Chennai Super Kings’ likely bold move hints at a new strategic direction in the post-MS Dhoni era, as the team looks to rebuild around a new leadership group and a more dynamic mix of players. The report also revealed that Dhoni and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad recently had a meeting.

Urvil Patel stuns fans with MS Dhoni-style stumping
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings’ rising wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel has taken social media by storm after showing shades of MS Dhoni’s legendary wicketkeeping skills. The 27-year-old displayed a stunning piece of glove work that reminded fans of Dhoni’s lightning-fast stumpings.
In a viral Instagram clip, Urvil executed a brilliant stumping that left the batter completely stunned. The delivery barely brushed past the edge, and in the blink of an eye, Urvil collected the ball cleanly and whipped off the bails before the batter could regain balance.
The precision and speed of the moment were so Dhoni-like that fans couldn’t help but draw comparisons with the CSK legend. Patel captioned the video: “Didn’t learn from books… Learned from the legend himself—Thala.”
