Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has finalized their list of retained players for IPL Auction 2025. BCCI had set the deadline of Thursday, October 31 for all franchises to submit their list of retained players.

According to the new rules set by the IPL Governing Council for IPL Auction 2025, each franchise can retain a total of 6 players in their squad. They can either retain them directly ahead of the auction or through a Right To Match (RTM) card.

Out of these 6 players, a maximum of 5 players can be capped players while a maximum of 2 can be uncapped players. Hence, every team can go ahead with 4 capped and 2 uncapped players or 5 capped and 1 uncapped player according to their choices for IPL Auction 2025.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could not qualify for playoffs last season

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been considered the most consistent team in the Indian Premier League as they have qualified for playoffs 10 times out of 13 seasons they played. They also have the joint-most 5 titles in their kitty.

However, the Men-in-Yellow could not reach the playoffs last season despite a wonderful show throughout the tournament. They lost a must-win game against RCB in the end and finished in the 5th spot in the points table.

Notably, CSK was hampered by injuries of some key members during the latter half and they ended with 7 wins and 7 defeats in the end with 14 points table. MS Dhoni transferred captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the season.

Best performers for CSK last season

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad executed his role of the leader well and finished as the highest run-getter for the team with 583 runs in 14 games at 53.0 batting average. He also slammed 1 ton and 4 fifties in the season at a strike rate of 141+.

Shivam Dube (396 runs) followed him with a stunning strike rate of 162+, which comprised 3 half-centuries. Even MS Dhoni executed his role at the bottom with excellence, adding 73 runs at 220+ strike rate. He also remained not-out in 8 games out of 11 with a top-knock of unbeaten 37*.

Among bowlers, Tushar Deshpande picked the most 17 scalps for Chennai Super Kings, followed by Mustafizur Rahman with 14 wickets across 9 games. With 267 runs at 142+ strike rate and 8 wickets, Ravindra Jadeja was an all-rounder to watch out for.

Now, Chennai Super Kings will have to undertake massive efforts during the IPL Auction 2025 to set up an as powerful squad as the last season. MS Dhoni will be back to the side but this time as an uncapped player.
