While the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is still a handful of months away, the franchises have already started preparing for the forthcoming season. From making changes to the backroom staff, trading players as well as releasing them to making strategies for the upcoming auction, all the franchises are busy as they try to create a formidable outfit.

The highly-anticipated auction for IPL 2024 is scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19. And Chennai Super Kings will have their task cut out in the auction. They will have to replace one of the most reliable batsmen in recent times – Ambati Rayudu. The former India batsman retired from IPL after helping the team clinch yet another title earlier this year.

The five-time IPL champions are all ready to go big in the auction after releasing as many as eight players including the likes of Ben Stokes and Dwaine Pretorius. And ahead of the auction, CSK’s Chief Executive Officer, Kasi Viswanathan has revealed that the franchise did try to find a replacement for Ambati Rayudu but failed.

“We did look out for some players as a replacement for Ambati Rayudu but we could not get. But that’s the way it goes. It’s not as if you will definitely get a player for a trade,” he said. “We have only traded once in the past 15 years which was for Robin Uthappa.”

CSK have Rs 31.4 crore in their purse with nine slots available to fill. They can also buy a maximum of three overseas players in the auction. The Chennai-based outfit could go for New Zealand’s batting sensation Rachin Ravindra to replace Ambati Rayudu.

Ambati Rayudu for CSK:

Ambati Rayudu joined CSK in 2018 and made an instant impact. It was the comeback season of the franchise after the two-year ban and the batsman played a key role in the team’s stunning march to the trophy. He scored a career-best 602 runs in 16 innings at an average of 43 in 2018 and also recorded his only IPL century that season. Overall, he scored close to 2000 runs for CSK in six seasons with the help of one century and eight half-centuries.
