As the ongoing IPL 2024 enters its business phase, Lucknow Super Giants have received a huge injury boost. Their tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav is all set to return to action to bolster his team's bowling attack.
Mayank Yadav took the ongoing competition by storm with his sensational bowling. He made his debut in the game against Punjab Kings and bowled a match-winning spell. He picked up three wickets to help LSG win the game and get off the mark in IPL 2024.
The right-arm pacer impressed one and all with his ability to constantly bowl at 150kph. In the following game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he impressed with his pace again and picked up three more wickets to help his side win the clash.
His impressive run in IPL 2024, however, came to an unfortunate half due to an abdominal injury that he sustained while bowling during the game against Gujarat Titans on April 7. He bowled just one over in the match and walked off the field after feeling "soreness in the lower abdominal area".
Mayank Yadav to return:
Mayank Yadav will be in action when LSG take on Rajasthan Royals at home on Saturday. He will miss the game against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday (April 23) but will be available for the clash against Royals. LSG bowling coach Morne Morkel confirmed the news while interacting with the media on Monday.
"He stayed behind in Lucknow just to give him that extra two-three days without travelling," Morkel told the reports.
"He is with (assistant coach) Lance Klusener and the rest of the guys in Lucknow, training and getting ready. So I think, anything from the next game onwards, we'll look to bring him back in," he added.
Speaking further, the former South Africa pacer delivered a promising update on the fast-bowler, saying: "He's coming along very nicely. We're very happy with his progression. He started bowling three-four days ago, so for him it's just a matter now, of course of him, the expectation is greater, (given) that he bowls every ball at 150 kmph.
"It's just to really get his body and his mind in that sort of state where he's confident, running and bowling all four overs at a tight pace," added Morkel.
Meanwhile, LSG will be eyeing another win over CSK this season when the two teams lock horns on Tuesday. Last week, LSG thrashed CSK by eight wickets at home and will be eyeing a double over the reigning champions.
