Former India opener and an integral part of the Indian team that won the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa, Virender Sehwag has given his verdict.

Sehwag's verdict has come about the wicket-keeper batsman choice for team India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 later this June. Viru feels that there is no one better than MS Dhoni at the moment in terms of form, rhythm as well as statistics.

In what is touted to be his last season in the Indian Premier League circuit, MS Dhoni is proving to be a major revelation. His incredible performances in IPL 2024 have shocked everyone and calls are already being made to include him in the Indian for the WC.

Dhoni has provided explosiveness for the Chennai Super Kings from the lower-middle-order position and has made the most out of his opportunities.

A great ongoing IPL season for MSD

MS Dhoni had been out of all cricketing actions since the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad in May and after that, he hadn't played any form of cricket.

But it doesn't feel like MSD is batting after so long as everything about his finishing ability seems to be the same. He has had a strike rate of over 250 in most of the matches that he has batted and has chipped in consistently for CSK with 20-30 runs off 5-10 balls.

What did Virender Sehwag say about MS Dhoni?

While speaking to Host Gaurav Kapoor and Rohan Gavaskar in Cricbuzz's post-match show, Virender Sehwag first highlighted MS Dhoni's current form as well as his stats in IPL 2024.

Sehwag is so impressed with his former India teammate that he claimed that MSD is the best Indian wicketkeeper-batsman at the moment in IPL. Viru highlighted Dhoni's short but fiery knocks against Delhi Capitals and KKR among other teams.

Viru feels that wicket-keepers will have an important role to play for India in the T20 World Cup as lower middle-order batters won't get many balls to face. Sehwag claimed that team India's biggest challenge with the bat won't take place in the group stages where they are drawn along with Pakistan, USA, Canada, and Ireland.

Sehwag feels that India's biggest challenge will be against the likes of Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, that too, in the final overs, which is best suited for MS Dhoni.

"He has given a statement (Dinesh Karthik) that he is ready for the T20 World Cup. But one guy hasn't given any statement, should I show his stats as well? He has a 255 strike rate and doesn't have an average because he hasn't got out even for once. He has scored 87 runs from 34 balls. We don't have much of a batting challenge in the first round and there will only be the keeping job." - Sehwag said via Cricbuzz.

"Batting will be important only against 3 teams - Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, and let's say Pakistan as well. And those batting opportunities will come in the death overs so there's no one better than him in that regard." - Sehwag concluded.
