Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul couldn't control his emotions after his team thrashed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 39th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 courtesy of Marcus Stoinis. The match between the two teams took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
It was a special performance from Marcus Stoinis at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as he single-handedly took his team home. In the chase of 211 runs, it seemed they would lose by a big margin as they lost early wickets and were playing the catching game.
However, Marcus Stoinis made sure that he oozes his class with the bat. The all-rounder walked in at No.3 and stood tall on the one end while wickets kept falling at the other end. He made sure that he kept scoring runs at the one end to keep his team in the game.
Marcus Stoinis was at his best as he hardly put a foot wrong and played some brutal shots in his innings. The all-rounder slammed Chennai Super Kings bowlers all over the park and kept the run rate in check. He got vital support from Nicholas Pooran (34) first as the duo put the opposition under pressure.
After Marcus Stoinis got his half-century, it didn't seem at once that he would get out. He notched up a magnificent century but he knew that he still had a job left. He didn't lose his calm after the century and took his team home at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Deepak Hooda (17*) played a crucial hand in the end and took the game to last over. With 17 runs needed off the last over, Marcus Stoinis brought out his brutal version chased the target inside the three balls and took his team to the 6-wicket win in the tournament. He scored an unbeaten 124 runs and guided his team to 5th win in IPL 2024.
As he hit the winning runs, the reaction of skipper KL Rahul caught the attention of many. The keeper-batter yelled loudly in jubilation inside the dressing room whereas the entire dugout of the Lucknow Super Giants went berserk. Few players even ran onto the field to celebrate with Stoinis.

Lots of ebbs and flows, just tried to keep it in control - Marcus Stoinis after taking LSG hone
Marcus Stoinis opened up about his innings after the game, stating that he had some bowlers to target and also credited Nicholas Pooran for taking the pressure off him. Speaking to broadcasters during the post-match presentation, he explained:
"In these competitions, there are plenty of better opening batters better than me so I’ll leave it to them. It’s not just go go go, there were some bowlers we wanted to target and some bowlers we wanted to be more cautious against. There was a phase where I wasn’t able to hit the boundaries so it was great Pooran could come in and take the pressure off.
"Lots of ebbs and flows just tried to keep it in control. You’re planning and structuring, you're not liking certain bowlers and you’re liking others more. I do think T20 cricket is changing, the scores that have been scored, the impact player role and how teams are taking on the bowlers."
Lucknow Super Giants will be next seen in action when they take on Rajasthan Royals on Saturday (27th April).
