Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Matheesha Pathirana opened up about his match-winning performance in the 49th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Mumbai Indians (MI). He said that the team management gave him a lot of confidence and is happy with his performance.

Matheesha Pathirana was the talk of the town after CSK’s 6-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Chepauk Stadium. The young Sri Lanka pacer bowled a staggering spell at the death and made the opposition batters look clueless.

Matheesha Pathirana first removed Nehal Wadhera with a pinpoint yorker and then followed it up with the wickets of Arshad Khan and Tristan Stubbs to return with his career-best figures of 4/15. His impressive performance saw him winning the Player of the Match award as well.

Matheesha Pathirana said that more opportunities this season has been good for him and the backing from the team management gave him a lot of confidence. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said:

“My journey with CSK started from last year, I came in as a replacement and played only two games, but this season I am playing more and I am happy. They (team management) give me a lot of confidence.”

Matheesha Pathirana further went on to talk about his celebrations after the wicket. He said that he’s a die-hard fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and that’s why he emulates his gestures. He elaborated:

“This is my best bowling figures in T20 cricket and I am happy with the performance. I am a die hard fan of Cristiano Ronaldo (referring to his celebrations after picking a wicket).”

Matheeesa Pathirana will be next seen in action when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next game on Wednesday (10th May).
