Karnataka leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal is in sublime form in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. The latest signing of Chennai Super Kings is on fire in the ongoing SMAT match between Karnataka and Baroda at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore.

In a spectacular bowling performance, Shreyas Gopal achieved a hat trick for Karnataka in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 match against Baroda in Indore on Tuesday (December 3). Gopal's outstanding figures of 3 wickets for 9 runs (1.3-9-3) included the scalps of Hardik Pandya (0 off 1), Krunal Pandya (0 off 1), and Shashwat Rawat (63 off 37).

Shreyas Gopal didn’t allow the Pandya brothers to open the account while taking the crucial wicket of Baroda opener Shashwat Rawat, who was in red-hot form, dismissed for 63. This exceptional show proves why Chennai Super Kings snapped up Gopal for his base price of INR 30 lakh during the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Speaking about the SMAT match, Karnataka won the toss and decided to bat first against the Krunal Pandya-led Baroda team in Indore. However, the call didn’t prove right, as their opener Manish Pandey (10) and captain Mayank Agarwal (1) fell cheaply to Atit Seth and Krunal, respectively.

Abhinav Manohar hits unbeaten fifty against Baroda

Later, Karnataka wicketkeeper-batter KL Shrijith played a quickfire knock of 22 runs off 9 balls featuring three sixes before being run out by Shashwat Rawat. However, Karnataka managed to post a respectable target of 169/8 on the board thanks to the valuable contributions from Smaran Ravichandran (38) and Abhinav Manohar (56*) against Baroda.

Before taking a hat trick, Shreyas Gopal played a handy knock of 18 runs off 16 balls before being run out by Akash Singh while the rest of the line-up could not even face ten balls against Baroda in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 match at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore.

Defending the target, Karnataka had a great start as Vidhyadhar Singh removed Baroda opener Abhimanyusingh Rajput for 6 runs off 7 balls, and then Gopal ran through their batting line-up, taking crucial wickets in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.

Shreyas Gopal's four-wicket haul goes in vain in SMAT

After dismissing dangerous Shashwat Rawat, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Gopal handed Baroda another big shocker by dismissing the well-set batter Bhanu Pania for 42 runs off 24 balls, laced with four boundaries and two sixes, in the T20 match on Tuesday.

However, his remarkable show went in vain, as Baroda won the match by four wickets. Notably, Gopal has so far represented Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, and now he is set to represent Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025. The 31-year-old all-rounder has the record of taking a hat-trick in the shortest IPL game ever.
