Dan Lawrence has been included in England’s squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against India, scheduled to commence in Hyderabad on January 25. Dan Lawrence replaced young batter Harry Brook, who pulled out of the highly anticipated series.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) initially released a statement indicating that Harry Brook would be absent for the entire series. However, this detail was later removed from the ECB website. Brook might rejoin the team during the later stages of the tour.

Dan Lawrence To Join The England Test Squad – ECB

The statement from England Cricket on X (formerly known as Twitter) announced that Dan Lawrence has been called up to the Men’s Test squad as a replacement for Harry Brook.

“Surrey’s Dan Lawrence to join the England Men’s Test squad in the next 24 hours,” wrote the caption.

Dan Lawrence is currently participating in the International League T20 in the UAE. The 26-year-old represented England in 11 Tests between January 2021 and March 2022. He scored 551 runs at an average of 29, including four half-centuries, and took three wickets.

Lawrence has not played for England since March 2022, against the West Indies in Grenada. Notably, he was part of England’s previous tour of India. During the four-match Test tour of India in 2021, he made three appearances, scoring 149 runs at an average of 24.83.

Harry Brook Is Set To Return Home With Immediate Effect – ECB

The team is anticipated to arrive in Hyderabad on Sunday for the first Test. Brook has returned home from the training camp in the UAE. The young batter’s absence could pose a significant challenge for the visitors to secure their first Test series win in India since 2012.

“Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space,” the statement read.

Harry Brook has been a standout performer for England since his debut against South Africa in 2022. He has scored 1181 runs in 20 Test innings at an average of over 62 and a strike rate of 91.76. The right-handed batter smashed four centuries and seven half-centuries.
