Former Australian opening batter David Warner faced legal trouble after a drink-driving arrest in Sydney, and the incident shocked cricket fans. New South Wales Police charged the 39-year-old following a positive breath test during a random roadside stop on Malabar Road in Maroubra on Sunday evening.
David Warner is currently leading the Karachi Kings franchise during the ongoing PSL season. The left-handed batter utilized a brief scheduling break between competitive matches to travel back to Australia. He must appear before the Downing Centre Local Court next month to face these serious charges.
David Warner Fails Random Breath Test In Sydney
New South Wales Police released an official statement about the incident. Warner failed the roadside test and was arrested by officers. Authorities took the Australian cricketer to Maroubra Police Station for further checks. A second breath test at the station returned a reading of 0.104.
“About 5:30pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park,” the police statement read.
“Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing which returned a positive result.
“He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104. The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle-range PCA to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 May 2026.”

David Warner Faces Off-Field Challenge Ahead Of PSL Return
David Warner will need to deal with this legal issue before traveling to Pakistan to lead Karachi Kings. The team is currently second on the Pakistan Super League points table and has won three matches in a row under his leadership this season.
Karachi Kings will next face Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday, April 9 at the National Stadium in Karachi. Fans will be watching closely to see how Warner performs after the recent incident.
The 39-year-old retired from international cricket in 2024 but remains active in franchise leagues, including the Big Bash League. He has also signed a new contract to continue with Sydney Thunder for the next season in Australia.
In his previous Big Bash League stint, Warner was the top run-scorer for Sydney Thunder. He scored 433 runs in eight matches, finishing over 200 runs ahead of the next highest scorer in the team.

David Warner still has an outstanding cricketing legacy. The opening batter represented Australia in 112 Test matches since his debut in 2011. He scoired 8786 runs at an average of 44.59, scoring 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries.
Across his international career, Warner scored over 15,000 runs. He played 161 One Day Internationals and 110 T20 Internationals. He also holds the world record for the most international centuries by an opening batter across all three formats.
The cricketer has also won major global trophies. Warner was part of Australia’s 2015 Cricket World Cup-winning team and the 2021 T20 World Cup squad, where he was named Player of the Tournament. He also led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their IPL title in 2016.
