David Warner, one of the all-time batting greats of the game across the formats, saw his international career come to a disappointing end as Australia failed to qualify for the semifinals of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024, bowing out in the Super-8 stage earlier this week

Australia cricket team's semifinal hopes were hinged on Bangladesh defeating Afghanistan in the final Super-8 match on June 25, but Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq made sure of knocking the Kangaroos out of the tournament by helping their team to script history at Saint Vincent.

David Warner's international cricket journey ended with Australia's T20 World Cup 2024 exit

Australia's early exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 marked the end of Warner's illustrious international career. The veteran opener had already announced that the T20 World Cup 2024 would be his swan song in Australian colors. However, Warner's career, filled with remarkable achievements and unforgettable moments, concluded on a disappointing note.

However, Warner performed well at the top of the order in his last assignment, scoring 178 runs in seven games at an average of 29.66 and a strike rate of 139.06, with two half-centuries and a best score of 56 in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean Islands.

The left-handed batter was already retired from ODI and Test cricket, and now his international career has ended with the T20 World Cup 2024. He played his last ODI during Australia's ODI World Cup 2023 triumph, while his final Test appearance came against Pakistan earlier this year at home.

Has David Warner passed the baton to Jake Fraser McGurk?

However, the legendary batter has yet to officially announce his retirement from international cricket, but his latest social media post suggested that he has drawn the curtains on his illustrious career. Actually, Warner shared a photo with Jake Fraser-McGurk on social media.

In the caption of his viral Instagram post, Warner hinted at passing the baton to Fraser-McGurk to score quick runs at the top for the Australian cricket team in the future. Sharing a picture with Jake from the Caribbean, Warner wrote in the caption, “All yours now, champion.”

Interestingly, Fraser-McGurk traveled with the Australian squad as a reserve player for the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, the explosive opener was not included in Australia's 15-man squad despite his impressive debut in the IPL 2024, where he scored 330 runs in nine matches for the Delhi Capitals (DC).
