Former Australia National Cricket Team opener David Warner has pleaded guilty to a drink-driving charge during court proceedings in Sydney. The 38-year-old is set to be sentenced on August 18 and, under New South Wales law, could face a range of penalties, including a possible nine-month jail term, a driving ban and a monetary fine.
Warner accepted responsibility for the offence after being charged following a random breath test earlier this year. The Australia legend, who retired from international cricket in 2024, is currently leading Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League and Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.

According to a BBC report, David Warner pleaded guilty after being charged with drink-driving following a random breath test in Sydney in April.
During an earlier court appearance, David Warner's lawyer Bobby Hill had indicated that the former opener would accept responsibility for his actions. Hill admitted Warner's decision to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol was both "foolish" and "reckless."
The lawyer also told the court that Warner had consumed three glasses of wine while visiting a friend's apartment on Easter Sunday before driving.
David Warner will return to court on August 18 for sentencing. He could receive a minimum six-month driving disqualification, a fine of up to A$2,200, and a prison sentence of up to nine months under New South Wales law.
Following the charge in April, Cricket NSW Chief Executive Lee Germon described the allegations as "concerning" and stressed that the organization strongly promotes safe driving and does not condone drink-driving.
