David Warner Wants Australia To Defeat India In Test Series In India

Australia opener David Warner aims to defeat India in an away Test series after Australia won the Ashes 2021-22.

On Tuesday, Australia handed England a humiliating defeat by an innings and 14 runs as the hosts were relentless and aggressive with their bowling execution.

Debutant Scott Boland, who is the local player of Melbourne, scripted remarkable figures of six wickets for seven runs.

England were bundled up for 68 inside the first session as Australia clinched the series 3-0 to retain the Ashes.

Australia have lost their last three-Test series to India with back to back defeat at home.

Australia has won their only Test series in India back in their 2004-05 tour but their current players are yet to taste that success although they came very close in 2017 but were eked out 1-2.

Apart from beating India in their own backyard, Warner also wants to win a Ashes Test seires in England in 2023.

“You know you still haven’t beaten India in India. That would be nice to do, and obviously England away (in 2019), we had a drawn series,” Warner said in a press conference.

“But hopefully if I can manage to get that chance and opportunity, I might think about going back,” he added.

Warner has had a great start to the Ashes so far after scoring above 90 in the first two Tests despite enduring a dismal performance in 2019.

Warner hailed England’s iconic bowler James Anderson for setting the benchmark for old players and said he will keep scoring runs.

“I think James Anderson sets the benchmark for older guys these days. We look up to him as we’re getting on in our days. But for me, it’s about performing to the best of my ability and putting runs on the board,” Warner said.

“In the first two Tests, I actually look like a proper batsman, it’s almost like I’ve played my career the other way and had to knuckle down and respect the bowling and the line and lengths that they were bowling and obviously, the hundred eluded me.

“I feel in good touch. As I said, I was out of runs not out of form, so hopefully, I can put some more numbers on the board leading into this new year,” he added.

Australia will play against England in the fourth Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, starting on January 5.
