DC And PBKS Out Of Playoffs Race - What If PBKS vs DC IPL 2025 Match Is Washed Out?
Published - 08 May 2025, 08:04 PM | Updated - 08 May 2025, 08:05 PM

The 58th game of the ongoing IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) is in danger of getting abandoned due to rain and a wet outfield. The start of the match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala has been delayed due to rain.
Even before both the captains could go outside for the toss, rain made its presence felt and delayed the toss. Rain had hampered PBKS' training session on Wednesday as well, before playing spoilsport on the match day.
According to a report on Accuweather.com, the rain is likely to interrupt the PBKS vs DC match at least till around 9:30 PM IST. In such a case, even if rain stops, it could cause enough damage to make the ground unplayable for a match.

What happens if the PBKS vs DC match is washed out?
The signs are not very promising at the moment, and it won't be surprising if the PBKS vs DC match is washed out. If the game does not take place, both teams will share a point each. At a stage when both teams would have liked to get the full points from the match to bolster their chances of qualifying for the playoffs, they will have to remain satisfied with a solitary point.
A point would take PBKS' points tally to 16 from 12 games and will all but confirm their place in the playoffs. It would also mean three teams - PBKS, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru - will be on 16 points, and their place in the table would be decided by net run-rate.
PBKS are currently at the third spot in the table and would remain at the same spot if the PBKS vs DC game is indeed washed out. While PBKS would miss the opportunity to move to the top of the table, they would still not be very disappointed with the precious one point.
On the other hand, DC would have 14 points after 12 games. They are currently in the fifth spot in the table and would remain at the same spot, although they will be level with fourth-placed Mumbai Indians in terms of points.
DC's last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad was also washed out, and they would have liked to get all the points from the PBKS vs DC game. A washout would put them in a do-or-die territory. They would need to win their remaining two games to make it to the playoffs without depending on other results.
