DC qualification scenario IPL 2026: Can DC still reach playoffs after win against RR?

A well-contested match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the 62nd match of the ongoing IPL 2026 season. As there are multiple teams in the race for the play-offs contention, this match was important to shape the points table. Tonight, both of the teams tried their best to claim the crucial two points.

Ahead of the match, RR was ahead of the match in the points table: Rajasthan had 12 points from 11 matches, and Delhi had 10 from 12. Between the two teams, there were the Chennai Super Kings at the 6th position and the Kolkata Knight Riders at the 7th spot. After the DC vs RR match, the IPL 2026 points table gets a new look.

A thrilling match between Delhi and Rajasthan

Batting first, after losing the toss, Rajasthan Royals posted a well competitive total of 193 in 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel’s well-composed 53 off 40, captain Riyan Parag’s aggressive 51 off 26, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive 46 off 21 helped the Royals to claim the total.

DC made a comeback in the mid-phase of the first innings. With the ball, the star bowler of the Delhi Capitals, Mitchell Strac snatched 4 wickets from his spell, while Lungi Ngidi and Madhav Tiwari bagged a brace each.

In the first over of the second innings, the Rajasthan Royals dropped an easy chance to dismiss KL Rahul for a duck. Yash Punja dropped a sitter during the Jofra Archer over. The DC, with an extra added lifeline, scored 56 off 42. His opening partner, Ahishek Porel, also scripted a half-century- 51 off 31.

Ashutosh Sharma went ballistic in the end

The thriller in Delhi went to the final over to separate these two teams. Similar to DC, RR dragged themselves back in the contest through their bowlers in the mid-phase of the second innings, after the dismissals of Rahul and Porel.

A late cameo by Ashutosh Sharma settled the match for the Delhi Capitals, scoring an unbeaten 18 off 5 with a strike rate of 360.00. DC won the match by 5 wickets and 4 balls to spare. That drop catch early in the innings proved costly for the Rajasthan Royals

Can DC make their way to the IPL 2026 play-offs?

Despite the win, Delhi’s chances for the play-offs are not looking too bright. They sit on 12 points from 13 games and can reach a maximum of 14 points. Even wins with big margins may not be enough. Because of the low volume of points, there is not have it in their own hands. The remaining group phase will be against the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 24 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

However, according to all the permutations and combinations, the Axar Patel-led team is still in contention for the play-offs, and to keep the hope alive, they will have to secure a win against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
