Senior India pacer Mohammed Shami slammed the BCCI and the IPL rule makers for handing a 1-match ban to Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant.

The decision from the BCCI proved to be extremely costly as the Capitals lost their match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday night.

Rishabh Pant, who has staged his return successfully in IPL 2024 following the horrific car accident, holds the key to Delhi's middle-order and without him, the team suffered. Axar Patel filled in for his role last night at the M. Chinnaswamy.

What did Mohammed Shami say about Rishabh Pant?

On his YouTube channel, Mohammed Shami made a separate video on the subject of BCCI banning Rishabh Pant for one game which cost Delhi's playoff chances. Shami, who is known for expressing himself without any hesitation, first shed light on the negative effect that Pant's ban had on the Delhi Capitals.

Shami made a personal admission that banning the captain of any team at the back end of IPL 2024 is a huge setback for that particular team. He said that not only for Rishabh Pant but in a general sense he tried to convey that the rule makers should not do such things as it directly impacts the result of the match.

On the subject of the slow overrate, Mohammed Shami said that he has seen many games going slow toward the end of a game. He understood the fact that Delhi Capitals maintained a slow over rate which they were fined for as well but called the decision of banning Pant as "shocking".

"Personally speaking, at this stage, suspending a captain is a big blow for the team. Many a time, we have seen matches going slow towards the end of a game. I admit that DC did maintain a slow over rate for which they were fined, but to suspend the skipper for a game is shocking." - Mohammad Shami said on his YT video.

Shami blames the match referee for DC's setback

Mohammad Shami then went on to further add that it was a mistake or a jolting decision by the match referee of the game between DC and Rajasthan Royals. Shami said that Delhi was absolutely "Jolted" with that outcome and expressed his disagreement on Rishabh Pant getting a one-match ban.

Shami concluded by saying that regardless of what people say about rules, according to him, this should have never happened since this is the last stage of the league.

"The match referee has given a huge jolt to DC, and it should not have happened, considering that this is the last stage of the tournament. People are talking about rules but according to me, this should not have happened." - Shami concluded.

Delhi to face Lucknow in final league match

After getting their play-off hopes shrunk, the Delhi Capitals will face the Lucknow Super Giants at the Arun Jaitley stadium tomorrow. Both Delhi and Lucknow are in a do-or-die situation and the evenness of it will make the match much more exciting.
