Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke is amazed by Josh Hazlewood playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that the pacer should’ve been preparing for the Test cricket.

Josh Hazlewood made a return to cricket after a prolonged injury in the 43rd game of the IPL 2023 against LSG. The RCB pacer had a great return to the game as he bowled exceptionally well and returned with the figures of 2/16 on a spin-friendly track.

Josh Hazlewood was nursing an Achilles tendonitis injury, which kept him out of action for almost 4 months. The pacer got injured in Australia’s Test series against South Africa. He missed all the games for the national side and even missed the first half of the IPL.

Josh Hazlewood also has found himself in the Australian squad for the WTC Final against India and two Tests of the Ashes. He’s expected to play a huge role for the team as he has been chipping in every time with wickets.

Michael Clarke said that he should have been preparing for the Test cricket. Speaking to Fox Cricket, he elaborated:

“I don’t know why he’s overplaying IPL. I don’t know why he’s not over here in Australia preparing to play Test match cricket. I know they’ll have people over there, in the nets he’ll be bowling more than what the IPL players are bowling, in preparation for Test match cricket.”

Micheal Clarke further highlighted the lack of preparation Josh Hazlewood will be getting ahead of the Ashes. He elaborated:

“But I just don’t know if his bowling three overs, four overs right now is his best preparation for an Ashes series, after the injuries he’s had and the amount of time he’s had out of Test cricket. But it’s India. Are you kidding? No one is saying no to India.”

Josh Hazlewood will be next seen in action when RCB will take on Delhi Capitals in their next game on Saturday (6th May).
