India limited-overs pacer Deepak Chahar has named senior player Shikhar Dhawan as the player who should be named captain of the Indian team which will be touring Sri Lanka for a white-ball series in July. India will be playing 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is on their tour of the island nation.

With most of the first-choice players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and other senior players currently quarantining in Mumbai and readying for their tour of England for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and the five-Test series against England, India’s white-ball team would be needing a new captain.

For Me, A Senior Person Should Become A Captain And Shikhar Dhawan Is A Good Choice: Deepak Chahar

“Shikhar bhai will be a good choice (for captain). He has been playing for a long time and has a lot of experience. For me, a senior person should become a captain. Because players see that player as a senior and respect him and obey him with honesty. Players should respect their captain. He (Dhawan) will be a good choice,” Deepak Chahar told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.

The formal schedule for the same and the squad have not been announced yet. Also rumored is that the National Cricket Academy chief and former India cricketer Rahul Dravid is set to travel with the team as head coach, in absence of Ravi Shastri who will be in England.
